History of Elanthoor Block Panchayat

The history of the Elanthoor Block area is deeply intertwined with the ancient heritage of the Pamba River valley, the socio-religious transformations of Central Travancore, and India’s struggle for independence.

To bridge the gap between individual villages and the district administration under the Community Development program, the Elanthoor Block Panchayat was formally established. It integrated 7 unique Grama Panchayats (Elanthoor, Chenneerkara, Cherukole, Kozhencherry, Mallapuzhassery, Naranganam, and Omalloor) under one block developmental umbrella.

Over the decades, the block area has remained a cultural powerhouse, known globally for the Kadammanitta Padayani (held at the Kadammanitta Devi Temple under Naranganam/Elanthoor jurisdiction), the historic Omalloor Vayal Vanibham (agricultural fair), and the Cherukolepuzha Hindumatha Parishat on the banks of the Pamba River.
